When Ocean Breeze Recovery received its recent accreditation from The Joint Commission (JCAHO), our staff and friends of our organization eagerly began to spread the word. And why not? The Gold Seal of Approval we now proudly bear means we are among the most well qualified behavioral health care providers in the United States. Receiving national recognition is something to shout about. That’s why we want to share our story. We want our current and prospective clients and their families to know what JCAHO is all about.

Let’s start at the beginning. In order to apply for accreditation by The Joint Commission, a respected not-for-profit organization that strives to assure quality health care for the public, we spent considerable time evaluating ourselves. We checked and re-checked our policies and procedures regarding the services we provide, the knowledge, training and compassionate attitude of our staff, and safety of our facility. Once we felt confident that we could meet the rigorous standards of The Joint Commission, we sent notification that we were ready for a JCAHO independent surveyor to visit our facility, complete with checklist in hand.

An on-site survey means first-hand inspection of our services to see that we offer comprehensive, client-centered care with a solid recovery philosophy. We felt prepared for professional scrutiny of our records, observation of our treatment services, interviews with staff and clients, and review of our policies. We are pleased that we have met the challenge, and we are committed to the ongoing support and review offered by JCAHO. We take our responsibility to our clients seriously, knowing that those who seek our help need compassion and understanding. We also want to assure clients and their families that we are prepared to provide the best possible care in a safe and secure environment. Now that we have earned the right to display The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, we know we can assure those who are in our care will receive care that meets the highest standards in the nation. That’s the reason for all the buzz. That’s what JCAHO is all about.
